Let's make our future SMILE... Orthodontics for Stillwater and St. Croix Falls Teens

The teen years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment in Stillwater because most of your teen’s permanent teeth will be in place.  But teens these days are BUSY!  And so are their parents!

Luckily, some new solutions at Orchin + Orchin Specialists in Orthodontics work to make the treatment process much easier than ever before.

All About Teen Braces or Invisalign in Stillwater and St. Croix Falls

Experienced orthodontists like Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin can easily recognize issues with spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment in this age range, and your teen’s bone and jaw structure are formed enough to allow final orthodontic treatment to begin.  We love working with teens!  They are some of our best patients and we work to bring as much fun into their lives as they bring into ours.

We will work with you and your teen to understand your goals and lifestyle to find an option that will make everyone smile. 🙂  In our experience, the relationship between the teen and doctor is critical to success.  We can't do it without their commitment and trust, and we've been very successful at helping that to happen.  We'll do our best to give them the best smile in the least amount of time (and have some laughs along the way).

Some teens may have had Phase I treatment at an earlier age and are completing the process with full braces or other orthodontic treatment.

Beyond outward appearances, untreated dental problems can have a lasting impact on your teen’s oral and overall health.

If you notice any of the following issues, we recommend a free consultation exam with Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin at Orchin + Orchin Specialists in Orthodontics.

These may be signs that your teen could benefit from orthodontic treatment.

  • Early, late, or irregular loss of their baby teeth
  • Jaws and teeth that are out of proportion to the rest of the face
  • Protrusion of teeth
  • Difficulty with chewing or biting
  • Jaws that shift or make sounds
  • Frequent biting of the cheek or the inside of the mouth
  • Crowding or extra spacing between teeth
  • Teeth that meet abnormally or not at all

Bad Bites

Diagnosing and successfully treating certain bite problems can have short-term and long-term benefits.

Problems classified as “bad bites” can often be minimized with the proper orthodontic treatment, including:

  • Crooked or crowded teeth
  • An overbite or underbite
  • Missing or extra teeth
  • A disorder of the jaw joint
  • Incorrect jaw position

Benefits of a Straight Smile

Straight teeth that respond well to orthodontic treatment have many benefits, including:

  • Being less prone to wear and tear, chipping, and tooth trauma
  • Reducing the chances of developing gum disease, which can result in bone loss, decay, and tooth loss
  • Being easier to keep clean, helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities
  • Improving proper chewing and digestion of food

Choose Your Look

While creating a customized treatment plan for your teen, we might recommend an orthodontic appliance.

Here at Orchin + Orchin Specialists in Orthodontics, we offer:

Metal Braces

Braces have come a very long way, even within the past decade. When many people think of braces, they think of extremely bulky metal brackets.

We don't use this type of bulky orthodontic appliance. Many of the new braces are lighter and more comfortable than ever before.

Ceramic Braces

Also known as clear braces, these work the same way metal braces do but feature brackets made of tooth-colored ceramic materials.

They blend in with your teen’s smile, making them much less obvious. Since ceramic braces are slightly more prone to breaking and a little costlier than metal braces, they may not be best for everyone.

Invisalign for Teens #experiencematters

The Invisalign system is made up of a series of fully customized, clear trays called aligners. These aligners are nearly invisible and totally removable. Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin have helped over 2500 patients using Invisalign.  If you've been told "Invisalign can't" for your teen, remember, it isn't a piece of plastic treating your child.  It is the experience of the provider working with that piece of plastic.  We most likely CAN.

What is Invisalign?  These soft and safe plastic aligners provide a more comfortable orthodontic experience, with no friction or abrasions inside your teen’s mouth.

Each week or so your teen will switch their aligner for the next in the set. When worn the prescribed hours per day, your teen’s teeth will gradually move into the desired position as designed by Dr. Jill or Andrew Orchin.

As some of the most experienced orthodontists in the country, Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin can treat almost any problem with Invisalign. Your teen is in talented and caring hands.  We promise.
