No. Retainers stabilize and preserve the alignment of teeth and jaws that orthodontic treatment achieved.
We now understand that just as your body changes as you age, so too will your jaws. Teeth continue to migrate forward as part of a natural aging process. To help limit this, we recommend nightly retainer wear indefinitely, although some people can get away with one night a week after several years of retainer wear. Tight retainers mean your teeth are shifting and that they need to be worn more often.
