Extensive Orthodontic Training
At Orchin + Orchin Specialists in Orthodontics, Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin are trained orthodontic specialists. Orthodontists begin as dentists. All orthodontic specialists are dentists, but general dentists are not orthodontists.
Out of 100 dental school graduates, only about six are selected to continue on and become orthodontists.
To practice orthodontics, Dr. Jill M. Orchin and Dr. Andrew M. Orchin spent 10 years in training (four years of college, four years of dental school, and two years of orthodontic residency).
As orthodontic residents, they spent two more years learning the skills needed to manage tooth movement and guide facial development. They both then in turn spent several years as faculty training orthodontic residents at Washington Hospital Center.
In addition to the extensive training all orthodontists receive, Dr. Andrew M. Orchin has taken the additional step of becoming board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontists.
To do this, he had to pass rigorous clinical and written examinations. Only a small percentage of orthodontists achieve this distinction.
Dr. Jill M. Orchin was voted “Top Orthodontist” by her dental colleagues in Washington, DC each of the nine years she practiced at Orchin Orthodontics. She has shared her knowledge as faculty teaching residents at Washington Hospital Center and as the leader of a Spear Study Club comprised of other dental specialists and general dentists.
Together, Drs. Jill and Andrew Orchin have treated over 2500 Invisalign cases, making them some of the top providers in the country, and the “Face of Invisalign” in Washington, DC.
